How to Measure
If you want perfect-fitting blinds for your windows or doors, then you need to make sure that you measure them correctly.
Correct measurements are critical to getting the right fit for your blinds, so it’s best to make them as accurate as possible.
What You’ll Need
You don’t need fancy tools and instruments to make accurate measurements, but you will need a few decent tools for the job:
- Tape measure – To ensure a perfect fit, you want a tape measure that measures down to the millimetre. We also recommend using metal tape measures because they’re sturdier and more suited to measuring hard surfaces like windows and doors.
- Pen and paper – Or anything else you can use to record and refer to measurements, like a notetaking app on your phone or tablet.
Things to Remember Before Starting
- To get the most accurate measurements, it’s important that you measure your window and doors exactly. DO NOT include any additional allowances in your measurements – our factory will make the necessary allowances for you.
- Measure to the nearest millimetre.
- Always take your time when measuring. Rushing can lead to mistakes or wrong measurements.
- Make sure you’re measuring the right parts of your windows or doors. For example, measurements for inside-mounted blinds can differ from outside-mounted blinds even if you’re measuring the same window.
- Always double check your measurements. Don’t finalise a measurement unless you’re sure it’s correct.
Roller Blinds
Inside Mount
Width: Measure the width from left to right at the top of the recess. This measurement must be correct to the nearest millimetre. Ensure that the window is the same width in all areas (please refer to the illustration).
Drop: Measure the drop of the window from top to bottom. Ensure that this measurement is exact to the nearest millimetre.
Outside Mount
Width: Measure the width from right to left at the top of the window frame.
Drop: Measure the drop of the window from top to bottom. You can choose how long past the bottom of the window frame you would like your blinds to go. Ensure that your measurements are exact to the nearest millimetre.
Note: If you have no architraves, add 20mm to 75mm on each side of the window frame to minimise any light gaps.
Sliding Doors Inside Mount
To get the best fit, always consider any obstructions like door handles and bars, as well as the depth of the door frame.
Width: Measure the width from left to right of the door frame, making sure it’s correct to the nearest millimetre.
Drop: Measure the drop of the sliding door from top to bottom as per the illustration.
Sliding Doors Outside Mount
Always consider door handles, bars or any other obstructions that are part of your door. You should also consider the depth of your door frame.
Width: Measure the width from left to right of the outside of the door frame.
